| TYLER SHEILDS: Controlled Chaos Opening Friday, October 12 7-10 PM Artinfo.com calls Tyler Shields "Hollywood's Hottest and Most Twisted Photographer"; GQ (Gentleman's Quarterly,UK) puts him in their 2012 list of "100 Best Things in the World"; LA Weekly says: "The mystery behind his relationships and habits captivate the media, not unlike the art world's best-known friend of the famous, Andy Warhol", and Huffington Post states, "Tyler is a madman, and one of the most cutting edge artists around." Whatever people say about Tyler Shields, they can't stop talking about him. His photo shoots are featured regularly in the glossiest magazines and global media. Tyler doesn't work with editors to produce pretty pictures to sell magazines. He works with the biggest artists of our time to make art. He has been called an "arch illusionist" who "has made a parallel universe of his own, full of fantasy and provocation, complicit with Alice in Wonderland and Henry Miller." --Heather Seidler for Ladygunn magazine. The body of work recently exhibited in his sold-out London show, Beyond The Gates, was heavily influenced by Tyler Shields' muse and girlfriend, Francesca Eastwood (daughter of Hollywood veteran Clint Eastwood). That way I still get a good copy of nature as I feel it and understand it." October 5 – October 7, 2012 |

| STEPHEN BACH | GARY KELLY | MARK HALL Opening Party - Meet the Artists Friday, May 18, 6 - 8 pm *** CLICK HERE to view the invitation STEPHEN BACH'S lyrical and ethereal landscapes have garnered him dedicated collectors across the country. Originally from Cincinnati and living in Florida, Bach captures in his paintings a sense of calm, quiet beauty, and tranquility. The oil paintings of world-renowned illustrator and fine artist GARY KELLEY express both his passion for the human form and his ability as a storyteller. Stylistically, he acknowledges the influence of his "heroes", the post-impressionists, Matisse, Bonnard, and Picasso. His latest body of work, " Exploring The Groove" reflests his passion for music in all it's forms. For MARK RICHARD HALL, raised in Dorset, his fascination with sculpture began as a small child when taken to the bright lights of London and exposed to the work of Rodin. After considering architecture, he was won over by the need to sculpt. His work is now collected worldwide and his installation work is referred to on university lecture circuits as "seamless cutting edge contemporary design". May 18 – June 1, 2012 |

Mundy, Steve W. Seltzer, Chris Thomas, Kathy Anderson, and Zhaoming Wu. Opening party, Friday, February 24, 2012 from 6 – 8 pm. | JOHANNE CULLEN Meet the Artist Friday, November 4, 6 - 8 pm Like a magician wielding a wand, French-Canadian artist Johanne Cullen engages in acts of illusion and fantasy. Birds printed on the fabric of a dress fly off into the sky; goldfish swim around a fully-clothed woman; reality merges into fantasy, fantasy into reality. Cullen's realistic technique and the well-considered approach to the composition of an often-impossible situation of her own creation make the viewer totally believe her vision when it appears on canvas. Her subjects display inner strength and serenity in the face of some unnamed, unseen adversity. She regards the eyes and hands as mirrors of the soul and in each work, either hands or hands play a prominent role in the story the artist tells. Johanne describes herself as "a realist who resists being thwarted by her imagination". Cullen was born in Quebec City in 1959, of Irish descent. Her career has included extensive film-making for cinema and television; and artwork for numerous covers of novels. Johanne currently lives in Montreal and has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in North America and in Europe, and is collected internationally. November 4 – November 17, 2011 |

| CONTEMPORARY REALISM: Invitational Opening Friday, September 30 6 - 8 PM View Opening invitation here. Miller Gallery is proud to present a major exhibition of Contemporary Realism by some of the finest realist painters in the United States and Canada. A year in the planning, this extraordinary show features new paintings of all sizes by more than 20 leading artists. Leaving the heyday of 20th century modernism behind, a time when pushing art to its limits was more important than actual skill, there is an ongoing broad return by artists across the globe to discipline and tradition. Returning to discipline and tradition, however, does not mean that the resulting art is traditional, just that the level of accomplishment of the proponents is refined to the highest level, inspired by the greatest artists of the past. Included in the show are: Anthony Ackrill, John Agnew, Daud Akhriev, Stephen Bach, Helen Crispino, Donald Dahlke, Isabelle du Toit, Michael Fitts, Daniel E. | John Whipple | Lynn Whipple - The New Work Meet the Artists Friday, June 3, 6 - 8 pm It has been five years since their last joint show at Miller Gallery and the many who follow the creative genius of husband and wife artists, John and Lynn Whipple, will know that each new body of work will be a surprise-and extraordinary. Both artists endlessly explore new forms of expression and continuously experiment with medium and materials, in paintings, assemblages, and sculpture. Sharing a warehouse studio in Florida, they are surrounded by the found objects that often appear in their works. Working individually, they impose no limits on their creativity. John's current fascination is with sheet metal, welding, and painting on metal. His passion for creating the highly original mixed media pieces for which he is so well-known continues. "I like to search for odd combinations of items," explains John. "The relationships that happen between the objects visually conjure up ideas that drive the work to completion." The quirky charm of Lynn's playful work is presented as mixed media assemblages and oil paintings. Lynn explains: "I allow myself to play and let my pieces reveal themselves to me. I find the things that interest me the most are slightly absurd. My hope is to create something real and somehow poetic but not commonplace; my goal is to keep communicating in my language." The show opens Friday, June 3 with an Artists' Reception and continues through June 17, 2011. June 3 – June 19, 2011 |

| New Works: Jolie Harris Meet the Artist Friday, May 6, 6 - 8 pm Passion is the underlying theme for the new works being presented by Cincinnati artist, Jolie Harris. An expressive colorist, Ms. Harris paints freely without inhibition, drawing from the color, light, music, mood and energy that surround her, whether she's working in her studio here or in Florida. The result is canvases ranging from those of quiet serenity to others that are a color-drenched visual samba. "The best paintings have a life of their own. If I am thinking, I am getting in my own way. There is a rhythm and flow to the underpinnings of my works. The essence of each piece is born from an intrinsic energy that evolves into a deeper dance with my subconscious as I paint." May 6 – May 20, 2011 |

| New Works: Valery Milovic Meet the Artist Friday, May 6, 6 - 8 pm New Mexico's Valery Milovic approaches her canvases with energy and emotion. Ms. Milovic's paintings make you think, laugh, and ache for her tormented characters that are inspired by her love of vintage toys and cartoons. From boozing bunnies and heart-broken bats, to chain-smoking rats, and skeletons, skulls and hearts, Milovic's works are in acrylic and mixed media, as well as painted wood. "I am passionate about human emotion, flaw, and behavior," explains Milovic. "This is the driving force behind most of my artwork. I continually explore love, human shortcomings and frailties, disappointment, vice, accountability, repentance, regret, grief, denial, hope, etc. It is the most inspiring subject I know of. Besides death, it's what we all have in common." May 6 – May 20, 2011 |

| PAM FOLSOM: What Matters Meet the Artist Friday, March 25, 6 - 8 pm Miller Gallery is proud to present a solo show of vibrant landscape paintings by renowned Cincinnati artist, Pam Folsom. The inspiration for this body of work comes from the regular weekend drives the artist takes along scenic Route 52 from Cincinnati to Aberdeen, Ohio where she and her husband have a farm. "On these weekend trips, I rarely have the time to stop, but we pass one beautiful scene after another," she says. "For this show, I decided to make this drive my destination, the source of the work, and stopped to paint, to capture the beauty of all these places and views that usually simply flash by. As a culture, we have become so destination oriented, that we have forgotten about what the experience holds along the way." March 25 – April 8, 2011 |

| Dale Lamson: Parlor Paintings Meet the Artist Friday, March 4, 6 - 8 pm Miller Gallery is proud to present the second one-person show of figurative paintings by renowned local graphic designer and fine artist, Dale Lamson. Following on the heels of Swim, his debut series of people, young and old, at play around water, Parlor Paintings, is an exploration of the artist's fascination with tattoo body art and the people who commit to the pain, permanence, and culture of "ink". Although the popularity of body art is at an all-time high, adorning bodies without consideration of career or socio-economic status, many still connect tattoos with the most extreme among us. "Think Hell's Angels and street gangs," says Lamson. "My attempt is to individualize the person wearing the tattoo and allow the viewer to really look and explore, and in a sense, fantasize about what the subject may truly be like - without the danger of getting an angry biker asking what the hell you are looking at…." | Ted Borman: Ghost Clouds Meet the Artist Friday, January 21, 6 - 8 pm It is with great pleasure that Miller Gallery presents an entirely new body of work by local artist, Ted Borman . Called Ghost Clouds, the series pays homage to Borman's greatest inspirations and influences-the greats of early modernism, abstract expressionism, and neo-primitivism. With a rich palette and energized brush strokes thick with paint, Borman tantalizes and teases with an abstracted look into the Garden of Eden. With a sense of narrative, the paintings feature figures, animals, and birds in landscapes where meandering pathways meet sky and clouds-and the story being told is open to interpretation. | WEBEJAMMIN | Thom Shaw (1947-2010) Jazz Inspired Paintings from the 1980s Celebrate the Life and Art of THOM SHAW (1947 - 2010) Opening Reception and Celebration Wednesday, September 8, 6 - 8 pm In 1973, Miller Gallery hosted the first-ever solo show for the then barely-known, now long-renowned, Cincinnati artist Thom Shaw who passed away July 6 after bravely battling a succession of illnesses. Best known for his gritty, hard-edged, urban-inspired and thought-provoking black and white woodcuts, Thom was the first African-American artist to have a solo show at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Despite his hard-hitting narratives and often-blistering social commentary, the energetic, passionate Thom Shaw also had a lighter side. His love of the powerful music of the jazz greats-Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis--as well as the strong rhythms of the reggae roots band Steel Pulse, inspired throughout the 1980s, a body of vibrant, geometric abstract paintings. It is with a show of these vital and dynamic paintings from the series "Webejammin", expressive interpretations of the music he so loved, that Miller Gallery says goodbye to a great artist, a great man. Please join us in celebrating the life and work of a ground-breaking artist whose presence on the Cincinnati art scene will be sorely missed. September 8 – September 22, 2010 |

Educated at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and the University of Cincinnati, his development as an artist has been greatly influenced by his study of the writings of the great philosophers and progressive thinkers. | TED BORMAN ALWAYS on a SUNDAY Opening - Meet the artist Sunday, August 16 11 AM-3 PM New paintings by Northern Kentucky artist Ted Borman. ARTIST"S STATEMENT There seems to be a duality in my work. My compositions reach to the edge, an extroversion, a strong sense of ‘all-over painting’ and a point-counterpoint balance, yet the paintings loop and introvert, become intimate, color driven and forms dissolve. Like human nature, my paintings project a sense of chaos that is unresolved, yet at the same time, a sense of structure and rationale. More than content, it is beauty, color, texture, composition and sensual impact that motivate me. Music weaves and builds a common theme throughout the symphony. Even if disjointed, there is a balance or relationship that rejoins. My compositions are similar. Please visit Ted Borman's page to view existing works and complete bio. | ROB JEFFERSON ALWAYS on a SUNDAY Opening - Meet the artist Sunday, August 9, 11 AM-3 PM Exhibition of work by Cincinnati artist Rob Jefferson. ARTIST"S STATEMENT “In 1998, I began to create a series of individual paintings which were black and white, small and obsessively detailed, and the polar opposite of anything I had previously done. Intrigued by the potential for storytelling, I have continued to produce these series with no end in sight. The paintings are a collage of images derived from random, historic, or manipulated photographs. The intent is to let each piece meander, assembling visual information and allowing a unique story to evolve. This visual device can be traced to movie stills or even comic books -- a ‘reading’ of a story panel by panel in frozen moments. The paintings are small and intimate, requiring the viewer to step closer. A classical, monochromatic palette lends universal appeal. Although each series means something very specific to me, I offer the viewer the widest possible swath of interpretations as to the interconnectedness of all things.” Please visit Rob Jefferson's page to view existing works. | JONPAUL SMITH ALWAYS on a SUNDAY Opening - Meet the artist Sunday, August 2, 11 AM-3 PM Exhibition of work by Cincinnati artist Jonpaul Smith. In his own words, Smith “weaves these deconstructed images into organized, open-narrative works.” Viewers create their own visual and narrative experience as they navigate through the juxtapositions of surface and color. Smith chooses not to provide a focal point because he wants the viewers’ eye to be constantly moving. Every visual path is unique with the eye moving slower or faster through intersections depending on the size of the strips, the colors, and the scale of the piece. When standing close to a work, minute details are revealed. But from a distance, the viewer may see simply a system of related colors in gridlock. Hence, one’s perspective shifts from “microcosmic to macrocosmic.” Please visit Jonpaul Smith's page to view existing works and complete bio. For further information, please contact the gallery at 513-871-4420. August 2 – August 6, 2009 |

College eventually provided an environment where he could immerse himself in art. After spending three years in the Navy in Greece, Johnson entered the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He was influenced by the work of Marcel Duchamp: “Duchamp’s concepts, imaginative use of materials, and justifications for his actions intrigued me. My thinking was heavily influenced by him, but not the images that I produced.” Please visit Ron Johnson's page to view existing works and complete bio. | BRUCE RILEY ALWAYS on a SUNDAY Opening - Meet the artist Sunday, July 12 11 AM-3 PM New paintings by Cincinnati artist Bruce Riley. Artist’s Statement “My Pattern Paintings use repetition to observe the ego’s movements without judgment or guidance. This unfocused observation tends to slow down thought and at times stop it altogether, creating a state of active meditation, a state of such clarity that it’s almost impossible to describe. These paintings have come about through the investigation of thought as a tool and not the seemingly limitless content of thought. As I work I watch the meanderings of an uncontrolled thought, its silliness and its ‘serious’ observations. "This group of paintings is first and foremost a body of beautiful objects. Within this limitation each static object has been imbued with a visual kinetic quality through the manipulation of materials and formal concerns. I found that the use of simple shapes created a physical and psychological place of rest. These shapes also lessen the automatic associative tendency inherent in thought. The glue that holds the viewer is found in the tension between rest and kinesis. “Working flat I build up spontaneous layers, creating a rich and subtle surface where gravity and accident play as crucial a role as intent. The fluid manipulation of acrylic mediums and pigments gives these paintings a sense of motion and depth.” Originally from Cincinnati, the artist has lived in Chicago since 1994. | BEAUTY OPENING PARTY! Friday, April 10 6 - 8 PM Miller Gallery is pleased to present an uplifting exhibition of new works by some of our most popular artists whose work has one common theme—the unabashed representation of BEAUTY. In the tradition of Monet, Manet, Gauguin and other masters, it is the central desire of these artists to capture their individual views of the world in an inspiring, colorful and joyful fashion. Artists included are Don Hatfield, renowned for his timeless, classic impressionist paintings of mothers and children, frolicking on beaches, sharing loving moments in the loveliness of blooming gardens; Colin Berry, whose contemplative, measured and meticulous paintings often combine landscape and still life, are serenely classical and quietly poetic; Ellen Diamond, whose eye for pattern and color are reflected in her vibrant and vivid depictions of the French and Italian countryside, seascapes and village scenes; Pang Jen, for many years a gallery favorite, whose loose impressionist figurative and landscape paintings are exercises in soft, harmonious color; and popular local artist Ron Johnson, well-known for his paintings of Cincinnati scenes and landmarks as well as captured memories of European travel. | BRUNO CAPOLONGO: Eye Candy Meet the Artist / Opening Party Friday October 17 6-8PM It is with great pleasure Miller Gallery presents a show of new works by one of Canada’s leading contemporary realists, Bruno Capolongo. Capolongo’s series, Eye Candy, tempts the viewer with mouth-watering, lusciously decadent confections so realistic one imagines they could be lifted from the lace-embedded canvases. “Food and sex have been closely linked for thousands of years in all cultures,” explains Capolongo. “The beautiful and symbolic use of food in the ancient Biblical book of the Song of Solomon is inspiring. I am impressed by the erotic content of the book, its ability to celebrate romance and human sexuality without degenerating into pornography. The Song is both a gift and a challenge to artists. Thus, Eye Candy takes its cue and earliest inspiration from this book.” October 17 – October 31, 2008 |

| ANNE-MARIE KORNACHUK: Considering Eve Meet the Artist / Opening Party Friday, October 17, 6-8 PM It is with great pleasure Miller Gallery presents a show of new works by one of Canada’s leading contemporary realists, Anne-Marie Kornachuk. In her series, Considering Eve, Kornachuk’s enigmatic female figures, abundantly wrapped in shimmering, vivid, iridescent silks, captivate and intrigue. Kornachuk says: “The paintings are a kind of religious narrative (not about god or religion per se), using traditional techniques but subversive imagery, to depict the story of Original Sin from the point of view of Eve. In the work shown here, the viewer finds Eve, after having eaten “the apple”, covering herself in a moment of contemplation and self awareness. As the voyeur of this scene, we are left to speculate about what she might be experiencing. "It is my intention to use the story of Eve to speak about what it is to be human: our fragility and weaknesses, our strengths and passions.” October 17 – October 31, 2008 |
